The new semiconductor driver unit SRM-400S is the successor to the SRM-353X. A custom low-noise DUAL FET is installed in the first stage, and a FET is also installed in the final stage (amplification stage). Like the SRM- 700S, the DUAL FETs used are all matched by measuring and selecting the left and right characteristics.

It inherits the design and manufacturing know-how of the voltage amplification stage all-FET amplifier used in the high-end model SRM-700S. Like the vacuum tube driver unit SRM-500T that appeared earlier, the SRM-400S uses a newly designed power transformer with new windings for low-voltage circuits in addition to the conventional high-voltage circuits.

By adopting this low-voltage winding, the efficiency of the power supply is improved, and power saving and sound quality are improved compared to the conventional driver unit. In addition, a new chassis with a wider width and higher rigidity than the SRM-353X has been adopted. The hybrid structure, which uses a lot of non-magnetic aluminum, further suppresses the effects of physical external noise such as vibration. The input system is an exclusive use input of RCA and XLR. The custom-made double-axis quadruple volume and RCA input parallel-out function common to STAX products are also installed as in the conventional model. In addition, the sound quality, performance, and environment of the various electronic components used are also taken into consideration. A complete DC amplifier configuration that does not use any coupling capacitors in the signal circuit continues to be one of the major features. While inheriting the high-resolution sound and dynamic low-frequency reproduction of semiconductor circuits, we pursued a better balance than the SRM-353X. The individual bands from low to high frequencies are summarized in a calm expression. Suitable not only for combination with the Advanced Lambda series, but also for stepping up from the entry system SRS-3100.
